Difference Between K9 Crystal and Artificial Crystal
K9 glass is an optical glass known for its high transparency and brightness. It is processed, cut, and sandblasted to create exquisite crafts. It has low hardness, lightweight, and moderate refractive index of 1.51. Its hardness is 5.5 on the Mohs scale, with a melting point below 900 degrees.
Due to its clear and transparent appearance, many factories use K9 material to produce crystal glass products.
Its optical constants are: refractive index = 1.51630, dispersion = 0.00806.
K9 does not contain lead and cannot be considered genuine crystal.
Ways to differentiate:
(1) Sound: When tapping the objects with your hand, crystal products produce a clear sound with lingering echoes, similar to the sound of metal hitting. Glass products, on the other hand, produce a dull and echoless sound.
(2) Weight: Objects of the same size, crystal is heavier compared to K9 glass, which is lighter.
(3) Refractive ability: Under the same light, crystal products have a higher refractive index compared to glass, capable of transmitting rainbow-colored light, which glass products cannot do.
(4) Hardness: Crystal has greater hardness than glass, while artificial crystal has slightly higher hardness than glass. When using crystal to scratch the surface of glass, it leaves a mark, whereas crystal remains undamaged.
